29. HAKUNA MATATA

Sofia told Bastian about Olimpia’s bad behaviour. It was hard for him to believe it. There had to be some normal explanation for why Ollie acted that way. Maybe it was just an accident. Obviously, Bas didn’t want to listen to any talk about some imaginary horse-like friend being a bad influence. He decided to talk to his daughter himself. Bas: So, Ollie, your mom told me you two had a little misunderstanding recently. Olimpia: She told you?! But I apologized and cleaned everything up. Bas: Mom has to tell me things like that, sweetheart. But I’d like to hear the story again from you and understand. Olimpia: It wasn’t my fault, I just wanted it to look nicer. I just… went a bit overboard. Then we went outside with Shreeky, and then we wanted to dance… and I forgot about the mud… Bas: Shreeky is your friend? Olimpia: Well, yeah. We were just playing. 28. DIPPING A TOE INTO MISCHIEF

After their meeting at the café, Bas and Laura started seeing each other almost every day. Sometimes at work, sometimes right after. They went out for lunch, for coffee, and sometimes grabbed a drink together. Especially on days when Ollie was spending time at the ranch with her mom. And yet, whenever he tried to say something, the words got stuck in his throat. He didn’t want to ruin what they had regained. But being a friend wasn’t enough for him anymore. Sometimes he caught Laura giving him a look that seemed softer, gentler, as if she, too, was searching for something. But he could never be sure if ...

27. SECOND CHANCE

Ollie is going to school for the very first time today. She’s so excited! Meanwhile, Bastian met up with Laura at the café that morning. They had a lot to catch up on. Even though they last saw each other at New Year’s Eve, they didn't really have a proper chance to talk about everything that had happened recently.  Bas: So yeah, here I am, a single dad. Not exactly how I pictured my adulthood. Laura: I’m sorry. But, if I may say so, you don’t seem all that crushed about it. Bas: I guess I’ve already processed it, you know? It’s been a while now. Bas: At first, I wasn’t sure if it was the right decision, for a lot of reasons. But now I see that it doesn’t really bother Ollie, at least not for now. And the house is so peaceful now. Maybe I shouldn’t say it like this, but… it finally feels good to come home again. Bas: But enough about me, how have you been? Laura: Not much has changed. Although, there is some good news. My dads are trying to fix their relationship. Bas: Wow, ...
