13. BACK TO WORK
The new family member has completely stolen the hearts of the young parents.
Klara: My little bean. Mommy got you a pajama set from Plopsy. You won’t have to wear that default baby outfit anymore.
Akito: Agu gu gu! Look, Klara, he’s smiling at me!
Klara’s maternity leave has ended, and she had to return to work. Unfortunately, it didn’t go well. She came back not only tired but also disheartened and full of doubts about whether teaching is the right career for her. It’s been a long time since she felt this unmotivated and unfulfilled.
A chance to escape the daily grind came with the Festival of Flavors in San Myshuno. Klara went there to grab some fresh veggies and herbs, but mainly to clear her mind. However, even winning the curry challenge didn’t lift her spirits or cure her burnout.
Meeting an old friend only deepened her blues...
Klara: Hi, Marcus, you look amazing!
Marcus: Thanks, I just landed an awesome new gig. And you, what’s new?
Klara: Oh, you know, I just had a baby and went back to my old job.
Marcus: Congrats on the little one! Sorry, I’ve got to run—important investor on the line.
Akito: It’s Spooky Day today. How about we invite some friends over?
Klara: You know what? We could use some fun. Filip shouldn’t mind. Just fix the fridge, and I’ll cook something.
The house was decorated, spooky music set the mood, and the guests showed up in full force. The group decided to watch horror movies together. After the party, Klara found solace in Akito’s arms, momentarily forgetting her worries.
Akito decided Spooky Day (or rather Night) was the perfect time for vampire hunting. Holy water and stakes prepared, the protection ring on, and a vampire resistance cocktail downed, he headed off to Forgotten Hollow.
Stranger: Do you know why the blonde wasn’t happy after her date with a vampire?
Akito: Uh... no?
Stranger: Because he sucked! Hahaha! Get it?
Akito: I see you like bad jokes. That’s good, because you’re about to become one when I drive this stake through your heart.
Vampire: Well, if it isn’t the Vampire Slayer himself! Let’s see who’s stronger!
Vampire: But how? Vampires aren’t supposed to die in this game!
Grim Reaper: I’ve got a feeling I’ll be busy in this save file.
Akito: Honey, I’m back! And I took down a vampire!
Klara: I’m so glad you’re home; I was worried.
Akito: So, what do you think of your Vampire Slayer now?
Klara: I think it’s very sexy... and since we’re already in the bedroom, maybe we should celebrate your victory...
The next morning, Zoe called with an idea.
Zoe: Hey! Let’s hit the flea market and hunt for some treasures!
Klara: Good morning. Would you sell me that Llamacorn for a baby’s smile?
Vendor: Are you joking?
Klara: How about a discount, then?
Vendor: Fine, you drive a hard bargain!
Zelda: Hey, hey! I came to visit. How’s it going?
Klara: Thanks for asking, pretty well. Filip just fell asleep. And you?
Zelda: I got a promotion—I’m a surgeon now! Here’s a little gift for the baby; I hope he likes it.
Klara: You know, being a mom is great, and babies aren’t that demanding in this game. But now that I’m back at work, I feel like I’m stuck. Everyone around me is getting promoted, and I’m still doing the same thing.
Zelda: You just had a baby—give yourself some time. But if it’s weighing on you, maybe you should aim for a promotion too. Think about what you can do to stand out.
Klara: What do you think, little bean? Should Mommy try for a promotion? Maybe that’s a good idea. But where do I even start?
