21. THE WORST DAY

Olimpia knows exactly how to get attention, and Bastian falls for her sweet baby-level manipulation every single time.

A little bit of crying, and daddy’s already there with a cuddle.

Eventually, the young parents managed to carve out a little time just for themselves.

Bas: I missed this. I missed you.

Sofia: Me too.

Unfortunately, the next day was once again "the worst day of Sofia’s life," so the household temperature dropped... a lot.

While the parents were arguing, Olimpia was busy unlocking the sitting milestone, with full support and cheers from Rob and Oreo. She was very proud of herself!

Bas: Now that you can sit up, you’re ready for some culinary adventures! Okay, easy now, it’s just a spoon. Just like that! Hey, what are you doing? Oh right, guess you get that from me. I used to play with my food too.

Olimpia: Ba ba na na.

Sofia: We did it! Ollie’s best favorite food is pumpkin purée! How about some carrot purée?

Well... Olimpia didn’t like that one. She showed her disapproval so clearly, she had to be bathed right after. But oh, that look of satisfaction in her eyes!

More food adventures, and not only. Sofia tried listening to her favorite radio station, but to Ollie it was just loud and scary noise. Rob switched it to the toddler channel. Sofia lost her patience and let her emotions take over...

Sofia: Motherllamer son of a plumbob!

Bas: What did you just say?? In front of the baby?!

Sofia: Sorry! I just snapped!

Bas: You have to keep it together. You can’t react like that around the little one!

Mary and Orion’s wedding day arrived. And surprise, surprise, Sofia has again “the worst day of her life.”

Hard to say if that’s just a High Maintenance thing, or if Sofia really is one of a kind... Either way, Ollie wasn’t too thrilled either. Cautious infants don’t love unfamiliar environments.

Sofia: She might not be in the mood. She doesn't like unfamiliar places, and it’s been a while since she saw you all.

Maja: Oh, come on. She’ll recognize the family bond. Look, she’s smiling! Jace, where are you? Your granddaughter's here!

Jace: I’m not sure it's the best idea for her to see me right now...

Filip: I’m a bit worried too. Maybe Jace is right? She’ll probably get scared.

Maja: Nonsense! She won’t be scared of Grandpa, right sweetheart?

Bastian: Alright, let’s give it a try. Ollie, this is your grandpa… just in his slightly more... doggy form.

Jace: She’s giggling! Incredible. I think she really believes I’m a dog!

Sofia: Bas, can we talk for a second?! What were you thinking, handing our daughter to a werewolf???

Bas: He’s my dad! He’s had his fury under control for ages now!

Sofia: He’s a werewolf, Bas!!!

Bas: YES! But I’m telling you, he’s got it under control! He’s not dangerous!

Filip: Yeah, I think we should stay out of this.

Maja: Definitely.

Jace: Good thing I’m back in human form.

Maja: Did Ollie fall asleep?

Jace: Yep. Just needed a little rocking.

Sofia: I can’t believe how irresponsible you’re being.

Bas: And I can’t believe you can’t hold it together for one single day! Yes, okay! We get it! You’re high maintenance! We all know it. We’ve felt it. But maybe, just maybe, you could stop for a second and think about how I feel?

Sofia: Where are you going? We’re not done!

Bas: I am. I’m not continuing this argument like this. We’ll talk at home, after the wedding. I don’t want to say something I’ll regret.

Since the four of them were going to the wedding, Filip and Rob were staying with the baby.

Sofia: She sneezes a lot, just her thing, nothing serious. She doesn’t like being woken up. And she can sit now, so you can put her in the high chair, but she likes to play with her food, so she might get messy.

Sofia: She can also crawl now, so don’t take your eyes off her. And she grabs small objects, make sure she doesn’t swallow anything! But she should sleep through the night just fine.

Filip: Relax. I’ve raised two tiny troublemakers. I think I can handle one.

The wedding began late in the afternoon, after all finally got changed.

Only close family and friends. Atlas came from his mission just for his little sister’s big day.

I don't know what irritated Sofia more, Atlas being there, the earlier argument, or the pain in her backside from an uncomfortable chair.

Mary and Orion looked absolutely beautiful. Everyone was deeply moved.

But Bastian’s mind was elsewhere. He couldn’t stop wondering… Did he maybe overreact earlier today?

As the guests gathered for the couple’s first dance, no one noticed two Sims had quietly slipped away.

Sofia: What do you want?

Atlas: Listen. I miss you. I know I didn’t handle things well back then, but you caught me off guard. Everything happened so fast, I didn’t have time to process it. But out there in space, I had a lot of time to think.

Sofia: You’ve got to be kidding me.

Atlas: Why? I’m serious. I regret how it ended. I really miss the time we had. And I was hoping maybe you felt the same. That maybe we could figure something out.

Sofia: Then you were wrong. I’m happy with Bastian. And our daughter. So leave us alone.

Back on the dance floor, Laura finally asked Bas for a dance.

Bas: Thank you for the dance, milady. That was lovely. By the way, you look really nice tonight.

Laura: Thanks. You’re looking good yourself. That green suits you.

Bas: Sofia picked it out. Speaking of… have you seen her? I lost track of her.

She left him alone for a second, and already Laura was dancing with him?! Couldn’t she just leave him alone? It’s outrageous. He’s engaged. He has a child! They dated ages ago! Why was she clinging to him like that?

Then again... maybe it was all in her head. Was she seriously jealous over some teenage fling? They were friends, it made sense they had things to reminisce about. And yet... the way they looked at each other, all dreamy-eyed…

Nonsense. You're imagining things. And even if not, Bastian is a loyal, decent Sim. He’d never cheat.

Not like her. A romance expert. What an irony. A double one. She was jealous of Laura. Her. Like she even had the right, after what she had done.

Even if he never cheats... he could still leave. Especially after how she’s been acting lately. And he’s been so patient with all her moods. But how long can that last? At least she wasn’t breastfeeding anymore, so... she could have that drink tonight.

Bas: Hey, there you are. I was looking for you. I’m sorry, Sofia. I lost my temper today. You had every right to be worried about Olimpia. And I acted like a jerk. I don’t want to fight.

Sofia: Okay.

Bas: …Okay?

Sofia: Bas, can we go home already? Please.

Bas: Yeah, ok. Let’s go.

Epilogue

Barb: You look worse than me, and I thought that wasn’t possible.

Atlas: I think I have a broken heart. For the first time in my life.

Barb: That’s how it goes. First, it’s sweet talk, then “sorry I misled you, I’m with Karmine now.”

Atlas: Something like that...

Barb: So maybe tonight we forget about those who forgot about us… and make some new memories. What do you say, Mr. astronaut?
