21. SLUMBER PARTY

Maja: And they split the whole upstairs into two rooms! I wanted to throw a party at my place, but now I have no space! I don’t even know why they need another baby!

Enue: But having siblings is great! Look at me and Keliya, and at Talia and Imani.

Maja: But I already have a sister... Izi is my sister.




Keliya: It’s not the same. She lives far away, and she’s technically your cousin. Besides, maybe this time it’ll be a little brother! And we can have the party at our place—our parents said yes, and we have plenty of space.

That day, Maja had a lot to ponder during class. She didn’t learn much math, but she definitely learned something new today.




Maja: Mom? Can we talk? I’m sorry... Actually, having a sibling might be kinda nice.

Anna: I’m happy to hear that.

Maja: Can I touch?

Anna: Of course!

Maja: Oh wow, it's kicking!




Pregnancy can be a very happy experience. Or a very uncomfortable one.

Maja: I’m going to a sleepover tonight, Marshmallow. I can’t take you with me, though. Too bad, you’d probably be the star of the night.




The Kahananui sisters’ sleepover is just beginning!

Mrs. Kahananui: Welcome, girls! Everything is ready upstairs—sleeping bags and some snacks. Have fun!

Enue: Alright, grab some snacks, and we can start with a movie.





Maja: Ooh, Lost Dog's Journey Home! I haven’t seen this one yet.

Imani: Really? And that’s the ending? Kinda boring…

Maja: No way, that was so touching...




Enue: Okay, time to liven up the party—music ON! Who’s dancing with me?




Mr. Kahananui: Girls, time to wrap it up—it’s late.

Keliya: Dad, just a little longer!

Mr. Kahananui: Only a little.

Keliya: Alright, now that Dad’s gone… PILLOW FIGHT!




Maja: And then my grandpa went slash-swoosh, and the vampire was gone!

Talia: Yeah, right.

Maja: Why would I lie?

Ananya: Haven’t you read her grandma’s books? Mrs. Drozd wrote down all those stories.

Mrs. Kahananui: Alright, girls, now it’s really bedtime.

Keliya: OK, Mom!

Anna: Haha, I’m glad you had such a great time. You can tell me all about it in a moment, but first, someone arrived while you were away. Come, I’ll introduce you.



Anna: This is Bea, your baby sister.

Maja: Oh, Mom, she’s so adorable! Can I touch her?
