34. WHO AM I? (2)
New Year, new me? Maja has serious doubts about her future.
Anna: Why the long face? Do you want to talk about something?
Maja: Ugh, Mom. I don’t know what I want to be. All my friends already have some idea and know what they want to study.
Anna: Pick something you enjoy doing.
Maja: Easy for you to say. You always knew you loved art.
Anna: But your dad didn’t know for a long time what he wanted to do in life. He came to Sulani to find his purpose.
Maja: Really?
Anna: Yes! And you’ll find your way too.
Maja: How do you know...? What if... I fail?
Anna: You’re our daughter and the heir to the legacy, remember—Watcher always has a plan!
It’s Career Day at school. But Maja is starting to lose hope that she’ll find a job that suits her.
Criminal: So, what questions do you have for me? At first, you just start off robbing people on the street, and only later do you move on to breaking into houses or pulling off bigger heists.
Maja: Uhh... No... thanks! Did they really let you in here??
Criminal: I gave them a fake resume and changed my details in the system, that’s my specialty. You can learn it too!
Maja: Hey, I think I know you!
Simfluencer: Think? I was hoping you’d be sure!
Maja: You run Plumbob Will Fix It on Simstagram! Is that an actual career?!
Simfluencer: Of course! I’ll tell you everything you want to know.
Maja: So, if I already have a Simstagram and 30,000 followers, does that mean I’m basically working already?
Simfluencer: Absolutely! 30,000 is a solid number. Work on your charisma and think about what you want to focus on for your channel. A degree in Communications could definitely help too. Good luck!
Maja: Sir, I think I’ve found all the answers I was looking for.
Mr. Zuch: Very good, Maja. Just remember to take the career aptitude test when you get home.
Bea: We have news!!!
Filip: I just got a call from the school principal! Your grades have improved so much that you could even graduate early! Congratulations, I’m proud of you.
Maja: Thanks, Dad! But I’d rather stay in school and graduate with everyone else.
Bea: Smart choice. And you should clean up in here, it reeks of dust bunnies.
Flip: BEA...!
Maja: That dust bunny is going to eat you in your sleep!
Meanwhile, at work, Anna was faced with a tough decision. Fame, but at the cost of her job, or keeping her position with no chance of public recognition. She decided to handle the matter discreetly to avoid embarrassing the museum.
Mele: I heard about what happened this morning—what a story!
Anna: Yeah, I wasn’t expecting that much excitement at my job.
Mele: The important thing is that the fraud was uncovered!
Mr. Paewai: Mrs. Drozd, I’d like to personally thank you for your discretion today. I need people like you. I’d like to offer you a position in our program.
Anna: Oh wow, thank you! That’s amazing!
Mr. Paewai: You start tomorrow. Just don’t let me down!
Maja was filled with frustration—at her little sister and at bad memories of her ex—so she decided to vent by vacuuming up some dust bunnies. Meanwhile, Filip had just finished writing another documentary book about Sulani’s situation, successfully fulfilling his New Year’s resolution.
Bea woke up in the middle of the night with a strange feeling. She decided to follow it. She thought she saw something flicker in the water—was that... a tail? Eh, nonsense. Probably just her imagination. Better go back to bed.
The next day at school was Costume Day. Of course, Bea was a princess. In computer science class, she met a new classmate, Vaea.
They quickly became friends.
Vaea: You know, you’re pretty cool. Wanna be my girlfriend?
Bea: Sure! But you can’t cheat on me!
After school, Maja needed to talk to her parents.
Maja: So... I’ve been thinking a lot about college, specifically Communications, but I’d like to see the campus first...
Filip: That’s great! Grandma would love to give you a tour, she knows every corner of Britechester!
Maja: But... I wasn’t thinking about Britechester. I was thinking about the Institute in San Sequoia... They have their own audiovisual studio, lectures from famous journalists and celebrities, state-of-the-art equipment, and even classes on eavesdropping and investigative work! And we could go this weekend! Please!
Anna: That sounds amazing, but this weekend? Are you sure? You have your farewell school dance.
Maja: Yeah, like I have anyone to go with there... No, thanks, I’d rather go to San Sequoia. There’s supposed to be a Freedom Parade happening, too!
Anna: Well... okay. If it’s that important to you, we’ll go this weekend.
Bea: She doesn’t have anyone to go with? What a total lame-o. Even I have a boyfriend, and I’m still a kid.
Maja: Ugh... You are such a PlantSim, kid.
Bea: Hey, take that back! I am NOT a PlantSim! Dad!
Filip: ...
Bea: I can’t believe I’m related to you. You’re awful! AWFUL! I HATE YOU!
Bea developed an inferiority complex and she feels very tense around her family lately.
